FIL-AMERICAN Coryn Rivera, now racing for Team Sunweb sprinted to victory at the Tour of Flanders on Sunday in Belgium.

She became the first woman riding for a United States team to win two women’s World Tour races this year.

And, with it, she towed her team to the same achievement, according to online reports on several cycling websites..

The 24-year-old Rivera was with a group of 15 riders who caught a break of four within the final kilometer.

She was ahead of 16 riders who finished the 153.2km around the roads of Oudenaarde in four hours, two minutes and 38 seconds.

The win was an emotional moment for Rivera, who won Trofeo Alfedo Binda two weeks ago.

After 41 kilometers of the race,  three riders managed to gain 30 seconds. The gap closed as the peloton, which included River, approached the second third of the race and re-entered the Oudenaarde.

Team Sunweb faltered as Rivera and teammate Ellen van Dijk dropped behind on the final climb of the day with less than 14 kilometers to go.

According to reports, “both riders chased hard over the top and on the flat run into the finish, catching back on in time to set up the sprint for Rivera.”

“We were committed to the plan of sprinting. Ellen chased it down crazy hard and luckily we had some help from Canyon also,” said Rivera in an online interview.
