Cocoy, Po dominate 19th HEAD junior tennis tourney in Bacolod

BACOLOD native Jufe-an Cocoy dominated the sixth leg of 19th HEAD Junior Tennis Satellite Circuit by winning two crowns recently, while second seed Caesar Po conquered the 18-and-under boys’ singles class at the Panaad tennis courts in Bacolod City. 

Cocoy relied on her strong backhand to beat Ma. Hannah Divinagracia, 6-0, 6-2, to clinch the 12-and-under girls’ singles crown and she also defeated Shedel Aigley Gica, 6-4, 6-4, to win the 14-and-under girls’ singles trophy. 

Po, on the other hand, won over RJ Dejilla, 7-5, 6-1, to bag the 18-and-under boys’ singles crown, but the third seed Dejilla bounced back in the 16-and-under boys’ single finals division by getting back at Po, 2-6, 6-4, 3-0 (retire) to win the crown. 

The tournament is supported by Chris Sports, the nationwide sports retail chain, Toalson strings, UBE Express, the Premium Airport Bus Service, media partners People’s Television, Aksyon Sports, Business Mirror, Philippine Locale, Cook, Health and Fitness, Pilipino Mirror and Philippines Graphics. 

Top seed Marben Erl Mosquera blasted Joshua Raymundo, 6-0, 6-1, to take home the 14-and-under boys’ singles trophy, while Kerwin De Asis bashed Giovani Dimate, 6-1, 6-3, for the 12-and-under boys’ singles title of the tournament organized by HEAD Philippines distributor Dynamic sports.

Ma. Hannah Divinagracia nipped Giovani Dimate, 5-4 (5), 5-4 (2), to claim the 10-and-under unisex singles’ crown. 

In other singles’ finals results, top seed Kiana De Asis crushed Shedel Aigley Gica, 6-2, 6-3, to gain the 16-and-under girls’ diadem, while Valerie Desoyo won over Jewel Milliam, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, to snare the 18-and-under girls’ title. 

Meanwhile, the champions in the doubles’ category were Kerwin De Asis and Joshua Raymundo (14-and-under boys); Caesar Po and Mark Crisosto (18-and-under boys); and Shedel Aigley Gica and Kiana De Asis (18-and-under girls). 

The seventh leg of the satellite junior tennis circuit or the first venue of the Luzon leg is now ongoing this week at the Civic Center tennis courts in Naga City.
