Legarda denies rumor on taking over DSWD

SANTO TOMAS, Batangas—Senator Loren Legarda on Wednesday flatly denied rumors of getting an offer from President Rodrigo Duterte for a Cabinet position at the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

“I have not talked to the President,” Legarda told reporters in a chance interview during the inauguration of her son’s solar factory here.

Asked if she knew who was the incumbent lady senator, Duterte referred to, Legarda told reporters to “ask the other lady senators.”

All female senators, except Legarda and Risa Hontiveros, are reelectionists. Legarda is under the Nationalist People’s Coalition which has an alliance with Duterte’s political party, PDP-Laban. Akbayan Senator Hontiveros, meanwhile, is part of the Senate minority.

The other female senators are Nancy Binay, Grace Poe, Cynthia Villar, and Leila de Lima, who is detained in Camp Crame over drug charges.
