TUGUEGARAO CITY—The Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Department of Social Welfare and Development recently recognized at least 20 local government units in the region as top performers in the delivery of social services that promote children’s wellbeing.

DILG Regional Director Jonathan Paul Leusen Jr. said the recipient-LGUs of the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance were assessed based on their performances in implementing child-friendly programs and instituting measures that promote a child’s right to survival, development, protection and participation.

Ponciana Condoy, DSWD regional director, congratulated the recipient-LGUs for their efforts and initiatives in the various projects and programs in their respective localities that promote and observe children’s rights.

The top performing LGUs include Penablanca, Sta. Teresita, Buguey and Alcala in Cagayan; Itbayat in Batanes; Alicia, San Guillermo, Sta. Maria, Burgos, Jones and San Mateo in Isabela; Aglipay and Nagtipunan in Quirino; and Villaverde, Bagabag and Ambaguio in Nueva Vizcaya, Condoy said.

Condoy also urged other LGUs in the region to follow suit and to make their municipalities child-friendly.

In the same venue, at least 88 LGUs in the Cagayan Valley region were also awarded with Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance by the DILG.
