Tanduay volleyfest Sunday

CANTADA Sports, in coordination with the Philippine Volleyball Federation, is holding the 1st Tanduay Athletics Luzon Secondary (Under 18) Invitational Beach Volleyball Championships at the sand courts of the Cantada Sports Center on Sunday in Taguig City. 

Boys and girls under 18 years old are competing in their respective divisions.  Teams from Baguio City, Zambales, Marinduque, Cavite, Pangasinan and Isabela have confirmed  their participation. 

Far Eastern University, National University, Rizal Technological University, University of Makati, Xavier School, Olivarez College, Mandaluyong High School and Pasay City High School have likewise confirmed. 

Thirty-three teams have registered (18 boys and 15 girls).

Two players compose a team. Players in teams must be enrolled in the same school and should have been born on Nov. 27, 1999 or later. 

There are no entry fees and complimentary food and drinks will be served to all participants, accredited officials and guests of the organizers all day Sunday.  

Out-of-town participants will be billeted at the sports center and will be provided transportation money. 

The tournament is backed by Tanduay, led by Bong Tan Jr. 

Nat’l duckpin keg tourney rolls tomorrow

GIFT certificates worth P350,000 and trophies will be at stake in the 42nd National Open duckpin bowling championships slated tomorrow (Saturday) until December 3 at the 6th floor of the The Marketplace Bowling Center along Kalentong St. in Mandaluyong City.

According to PHIDBC (Philippine Duckpin Bowling Council) president Inez G. Magbual, competition will be conducted in team and single events for men and ladies.

 “The tournament is open to all duckpin bowlers nationwide,” said Magbual.

Gift checks and trophies for the team competition are: P35,000 for first, P30,000 for second and P15,000 for third in the men’s division and P30,000 for first, P20,000 for second and P15,000 for third in the ladies’ division.

Trophies and gift checks in the men’s and ladies’ singles competition are P12,000 for first, P9,000 for second and P7,000 for third.

Acting PHIDBC secretary general Engr. Thors Labay says competition in team and singles will start at 1 p.m. tomorrow.  

Semifinal action will start at 9 a.m. for men’s singles and 10 a.m. for ladies’ singles, while semis team competition be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for men for men and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for ladies, with the up-the-ladder matches for both men’s and women’s divisions set from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3.

There will also be individual cash prizes for (high single and high triple) for team and (high single, high triple and high pinning) for single.

The awarding ceremony and PHIDBC’s family Christmas party will start at 7:30 p.m.

“PHIDBC Got Talents” will be among the highlights of the closing rites.  Competition will be staged in singing, dancing, drama and other talents bowlers may want to show.  Prizes of P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000 await the top three performers.
