THE Senate Basketball Team, led by Senators Joel Villanueva and Sonny Angara, showed no mercy on the Commission on Audit as it pulled off a 105-72 win in the UNTV Season 6 last Sunday at the Olivarez Sports Complex in Parañaque City.

Hailed as Best Players of the Game are Michael Dan Omega and Sen. Joel Villanueva.

“Natutuwa kami dahil ‘yung game-plan na tinuturo ni Coach Mike Fermin ay nagagawa namin, na-eexecute namin. And of course, kudos sa teammates namin na willing to walk the extra mile to get a win,” Senator Villanueva said.

Senator Sonny Angara (#2) and Sen. Joel Villanueva (#3) give high fives to their teammates  during their UNTV Cup Season 6 game with the COA Enablers  at the Olivarez Gym in Parañaque City.

“Sabi lang ni Coach, play hard lang at saka kung ano ang game ng Senate, ‘yun lang ang gagawin namin,” Omega seconded.

The loss sent the COA Enablers into an early vacation and fortified the Senate Defenders’ campaign for the next round of the season.

“We’re definitely hungry and lesson sa amin ‘yung last year kaya every single game, we treat it as a championship game at last game namin. Kaya kung makikita mo ‘yung hustle ni Omega, hustle ng mga teammates namin, talagang patay kung patay basta makuha lang ‘yung bola, basta maka-depensa. So, we’re very happy. At the end of the game, hindi importante sa amin who gets the best player, who gets the score kungdi manalo kami and ang rhythm ng team namin ay hindi mawala.” Senatpr Villanueva added.

Meanwhile, the GSIS Furies extinguished the BFP Firefighters in the second game of a triple-header with a final score of 81-75.

James Patrick Abugan was hailed as the Best Player of the Game with 34 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals.

The Furies also got a solid performance from Rene Boy Banzali with 25 points, 5 rebounds,  2 assists and 1 steal.

With the win, the GSIS Furies advanced to next round, while BFP bid goodbye to the season.

In the last game, the NHA Builders turned back the DOJ Justice Boosters, 81-73.

Antonio Lustestica led the Builders with 23 points and got ample help from John Dizon (15 pts) and Waldemar Tibay (15pts).

The Justice Boosters were paced by Paul Reguera (20 pts), Justine Lopez (13 pts) and Eric Mabazza (12 pts).
