OVER 1,000 participants from Baguio to Cebu will test their speed, strength and endurance at the Bike King TRI 1 standard distance triathlon on Sunday, February 25, firing off from the Acea Resort in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.
Supported by official timekeeper TAG Heuer, Standard Insurance, official skin care Neutrogena, Vittoria, Nestle Dolce Gusto, Smart, NLEX-SCTEX, Prohealth Sports and Spinal, hydration partner Nuun, ON Shoes, Robinsons Supermarket, Gardenia, Acea Subic Bay, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), Court Meridian Hotel & Suites and Subic Holiday Villas, Bike King TRI 1 continues the tradition of being the most anticipated season-opener in the multisport calendar.
It’s a calm 1.5-km swim off Acea beach then a 40-km bike course up the inclines and false flats towards Ocean Adventure then back, before triathletes go all out on the 10-km run along scenic San Bernardino Road.
The gun goes off at 6:10 a.m. for the first of three waves: Wave 1 (all females, males 30-34, 55-59 and 60-above), followed by Wave 2 at 6:20 a.m. (males 18-24, 25-29, 45-49, 50-54 and relay teams), and Wave 3 at 7:30 a.m. (35-39 and 40-44).
The top three fastest females and males in each age group and top relay teams will be awarded specially designed trophies and TAG Heuer will give a prize to the first male and female age-groupers to cross the finish line.
But Bike King TRI 1 gets an extra dose of competition adrenaline as 17 triathlon teams ranging from the well-established groups to the determined newcomers vie for the Top Team awards.
The Top three will be determined based on the combined time of the 10 fastest members of each team including at least two female athletes. Listed for competition are Baguio Triathlon, Century TriHard, FIT PH, Fitness First, Foton Tri Team, Globe Tri Team, Greenhills Tri Team, Herbalife, PayNetAmigo Tri, Polo Tri, Rider Omega Tri Team, Sante Barley, Sibakeros Tri, TeamNormanIntellicare, Trimac, Tri Taft and WU Crew.
At Saturday’s race packet pickup and on Sunday, triathletes and their family and friends can check out the Expo for discounts on sports and active lifestyle items from sponsors, including Bike King TRI 1 merchandise made by Wicked Active Gear.
Race packet pickup is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., February 24, Saturday at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center. The race briefing takes place 5 p.m. Bike check-in is on Sunday, February 25 from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m.
