BEFORE the more than 6,300 athletes participating in the 2018 Private Schools Athletic Association national finals at Carlos P. Garcia Sports Complex in Tagbilaran City, Bohol last Saturday, Philippine Sports Commissioner Ramon Fernandez underscored the importance of play in a child’s life.

“Sports not only highlights the fun, but more importantly opens a wide range of perspective for an athlete’s values formation,” said Fernandez, addressing the almost 700 participating private schools and universities from 17 regions.

Fernandez also called on the athletes to participate more in sports as he recalled his own stint in the 1971 edition of PRISAA in Bohol.

“Being a part of these games is something worth telling. So, I hope everyone gives his best shot and someday tell his own story in the PRISAA.”

PSC Chairman William Ramirez previously announced that it will hand financial support amounting to P4 million for the successful staging of the games.

Bohol Governor Hon. Edgar Chatto and PRISAA President Fr. Vic Uy were also in attendance to show support for the participants.

More than 700 police personnel were deployed in the key areas of the provinces, including the billeting and playing venues, to secure the event.

Bohol hosted the annual meet of the Central Visayas Athletic Association last February this year.
