Meralco Bolts test Aces while TNT faces Elite

Two teams look to stay near the top while two others are looking to start their campaigns on positive notes at the resumption of the 2018 Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup.

Alaska Aces point guard Chris Banchero (2) tests the defense of Meralco players Allen Durham (5) and Chris Newsome (11).

TNT KaTropa (1-1) looks to follow-up a morale-boosting win as it goes for a second straight triumph when it battles debuting Blackwater at 4:30 p.m. at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City today.

In the main event, Meralco (1-1) aims on getting back on track but would have to face a stiff challenge from Alaska in their 7 p.m. encounter.

Despite not fielding in an import the last time out, the Tropang Texters were able to stun the Bolts, 92-90, in a tight encounter last Sunday with Terrence Romeo picking up the cudgels with 23 points.

“It was a good win for us considering we played without an import,” said TNT coach Nash Racela. “We hope that that can be a start of a good run.”

Against the Elite, who will parade its resident scoring import in Henry Walker, the Tropang Texters will once again have an import after they decided to quickly let go of Mike Glover after an unimpressive performance in the team’s opening game.

TNT will parade former Pepperdine standout Stacy Davis as its new reinforcement.

Davis, who previously played in Ukraine and France, arrived yesterday and is ready to help the Tropang Texters’ bid against Blackwater.

Blackwater will miss the services of starting center Poy Erram, who is in Indonesia with the National team.

While Meralco looks to rise again, Alaska is staring at its new era ahead.

The Aces will now begin their new venture minus former star Calvin Abueva, who they traded weeks ago to Phoenix.

Vic Manuel will continue to lead Alaska along with its import Mike Harris, an NBA veteran.

Harris played briefly for the Houston Rockets and the Utah Jazz before playing in the G-League, in China and in Puerto Rico.

He has a tough first assignment right away as he goes toe-to-toe against two-time reigning Best Import Allen Durham of the Bolts.
