Globe Telecom Inc. said it formed a new company to handle non-core businesses critical to the company’s future growth.

“917 Ventures would focus on internal assets of Globe unlike Kickstart Ventures,” said Rizza Maniego-Eala, chief finance officer, in a press briefing Monday.

She added the new firm would boost the company’s efforts in building a future Globe with a reinvented core and with new business value sources.

The company appointed Issa Guevarra-Cabreira as its head. She was the Globe Postpaid Segment head responsible for the Apple launch, the first smartphone in the Philippines.

Cabreira from October 2008 to 2013 led the Touch Mobile Business Unit, relaunching the brand, to drive it from being the far no. 5 mobile brand to being the no. 1 in subscriber base today.

Cabreira from 2013 to 2014 took on the prepaid portfolio, adding Globe Prepaid under her wing, driving a cohesive play in the highly competitive and fiercely fought prepaid mobile market.
