The Commission on Elections will hold mock polls in 34 barangays nationwide on Wednesday, December 29, in preparation for next year’s national elections.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said the mock polls will be livestreamed and will be open to the media, citizens’ arm groups, and some political parties.

The mock elections will run simultaneously from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. In the following areas:

• two barangays in Pateros, two in Taguig City, and two in Pasay City
• two barangays in Cauayan City and two in Cordon in Isabela
• two barangays in Legazpi City and two in Piodoran in Albay
• two barangays in Dumaguete City and two in Zamboanguita in Negros Oriental
• two barangays in Tacloban City, two in Baybay City, and two in Palampon in Leyte
• two barangays in Cotabato City, two in Shariff Aguak, and two in Buluan in Maguindanao
• two barangays in Digos City and two barangays in Sulop in Davao del Sur

Jimenez said the test ballot will contain fictitious names of candidates.

The national and local candidates’ names are printed on the front page of the ballot while the names of the party-lists are placed at the back.

“These are fictitious names,” Jimenez said.

“We will not be using the tentative list (of candidates) for anything even resembling a mock election. That would not be a good idea,” he added.

Jimenez said they expect to start printing the official ballot by January 15.
