Leni backers hit Lacson and Remulla

Supporters of presidential bet Leni Robredo on Monday denied being paid to join her grand rally in Cavite on March 4 as well as accusations of being aligned with communist groups.

The Robredo People’s Council-Cavite, the event’s organizer, slammed the “malicious, irresponsible, and baseless” allegations of Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla and presidential aspirant Panfilo Lacson.

“Our participation in the rally is an offshoot of the overwhelming desire of thr Caviteño for a change. This is pure volunteerism. Such an allegation is just a way of belittling the dignity of the Caviteño and the capability of each of us,” the group said in a statement.

The Robredo People’s Council-Cavite said the red-tagging done by prominent public figures could put the participants at risk.

Earlier, Remulla said Cavite could deliver 800,000 votes for ex-senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Cavite is the second most vote-rich province in the country, with 2.3 million registered voters.

Last Sunday, Remulla claimed a politician paid P500 to each rally participant wearing “pink uniforms.”

“The CPP-NPA-NDF and those in pink have joined forces,” he said.

Meanwhile, Robredo on Monday committed to protecting women’s rights, empowering women, and addressing serious issues faced by Filipino women by signing a covenant with member organizations of the Robredo People’s Council Women on the eve of International Women’s Day.

“I hope the time will come when we no longer have to remind the world how great women are,” Robredo said during the covenant signing.
