VP bet David seeks common ticket vs. BBM-Sara

Vice presidential candidate Rizalito David yesterday called on presidential and VP bets who are tailing in pre-election surveys to revive talks of having common candidates who will be pitted against the survey leaders.

In a press conference in Quezon City, David said that based on his analysis of the Pulse Asia and Social Weather Stations surveys released in January, it would show that the tandem of former senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is unbeatable.

David was referring to the Pulse Asia survey conducted January 19 to 24 which showed that Marcos Jr. was preferred by 60 percent of the respondents, followed by Vice President Leni Robredo with a 16- percent preference.

“In my analysis, no one among the present candidates for president and vice president can beat the Marcos-Duterte tandem…We are already one month into the official campaign period but the figures, I think, will not change much for the next few weeks,” David said.

He said this is the right time for the other candidates to hold a dialogue among themselves so they can come up with a common presidential and vice-presidential candidate against Marcos and Duterte-Carpio.

He said the talks should be held at the soonest possible time so that by April 4, when the second Commission on Elections-organized presidential debate is scheduled, the people will see a one-on-one debate between Marcos Jr. and whoever candidate they will support.

“Let us set aside out personal interests for the sake of the country,” he added.

Also trailing in the Pulse Asia survey are Sen. Emmanuel Pacquiao and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso with both having 8 percent, and in fifth place was Sen. Panfilo Lacson with only 4 percent.

The SWS survey held January 28 to 31 showed that Marcos is still the leading choice among its respondents with 50 percent, followed by Robredo with 19 percent, tied in third and fourth places were Pacquiao and Moreno with 11 percent each, and Lacson with 6 percent.
