Electronics remain leading PH exports

The electronics Industry continued to be the country’s top exporter in January, accounting for $3.8 billion or 62.4 percent of total commodity export of $6.04 billion.

Industry data showed that electronics exports increased 6.27 percent to $3.77 billion in January from $3.55 billion a year ago. Telecommunication exports doubled to $84.53 million from $27.16 million in January 2021. They were followed by automotive electronics, which rose 82 percent; office equipment, 40.2 percent; control and instrumentation and 14.9 percent; and semiconductor components and devices, 10.5 percent.

Medical/industrial instrumentation exports declined by 24 percent to $17.72 million from $23.34, followed by communication/radar at 18.3 percent, electronic data processing at 9 percent, and consumer electronics at 8.9 percent.

Top 5 export destinations in January were Hong Kong, accounting for 17.83 percent, the United States with 13.86 percent, China with 12.13, Singapore with 9.58 percent and Japan with 7.78 percent.

The industry anticipates expects a 10-percent increase in exports to $50 billion in 2022 after surpassing pre-pandemic exports level by 3.87 percent in 2021.
