LTO suspends road rage SUV driver’s license

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Thursday ordered a preventive suspension of the driver’s license of a motorist seen sideswiping a motorcyclist and his female passenger in a viral road rage video in Mandaluyong City.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II, in a TeleRadyo Serbisyo interview, believes the driver of the sports utility vehicle (SUV), Pedro Magalit, could have intended to harm the Angkas rider and his passenger when he sideswiped them following a traffic incident on Nov. 22.

“The video speaks for itself. It quite seems there is (a commission of) reckless driving. The charge against (Magalit) must be attempted murder. It’s not just a simple accident because there is an intent.

Even police operatives, by filing attempted murder charges, their (case) profile, have also seen that. As if there is an intent to kill or intent to injure at the very least,” Mendoza said.

A show-cause order was issued against Magalit, 53, to explain his side on violating Republic Act 4136, such as reckless driving (Section 48), the duty of a driver in case of an accident (Section 55), and improper person to operate a vehicle (Section 27-a).

Operatives of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority arrested Magalit.
