Free public events to celebrate this year’s Independence Day

The Philippines is celebrating its 126th Independence Day today, June 12th, with the theme “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan”, set by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines. Wondering where to spend the holiday today? Here’s a rundown of exciting events happening across the country.

First on the list is the “Parada ng Kalayaan” at the Quirino Grandstand, starting at 3:00 PM. The event will then be followed by a free concert at 7:00 PM to cap off Independence Day.

Araneta City is also holding “Musika ni Juan: Independence Day Concert” at Quantum Skyview, Gateway Mall 2, which will be headlined by SB19’s Pablo, starting at 2:00 PM onwards. Catch a hilarious stand-up comedy show, “NoRems Ako Dito”, by Comedy Manila at 8:00 PM at Default Café Pub in Makati. Enjoy more free live music at the “Concert at the Park” featuring local artists and cultural groups at the Open-Air Auditorium in Rizal Park, Luneta, which will last until June 30th.

For art enthusiasts, explore the works of National Artist Larry Alcala in the exhibit “Larry Alcala: Slices of Life, Wit, and Humor” at the Gateway Gallery, ongoing until June 30th.

Discover traditional textiles and crafts at the “Likha 3: Likha ko, Lahi ko” exhibit at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) from June 7th to 12th. (Free admission)

Witness five simultaneous exhibits at the Manila Clock Tower Museum celebrating Independence Day and Manila Day until July 31st.

For Boholanos, immerse in Boholano art at the exhibit “Revisiting Independence: A Boholano Artistic Experience” at the Moadto Strip Mall in Panglao, Bohol, with free admission.

Learn about Manila’s heritage through walking tours offered by Renacimiento Manila, running from June 9th to 29th. (Tickets required)

For job-seekers, the Department of Migrant Workers holds an “Independence Day Job Fair 2024” at Robinsons Galleria in Quezon City. Meanwhile, SM Supermalls hosts a nationwide “Trabaho para sa Super Pinoys: Job Fair” at various SM Malls. You can also find your dream job at the “Kalayaan Job Fair” at SM Seaside City in Cebu. The Department of Labor and Employment – MIMAROPA, on the other hand, organizes various labor programs and services throughout June.
