MMDA cracks whip on illegal parking

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said it was actively working to combat illegal parking and road obstructions on major streets in the National Capital Region.

The latest operation along Delpan, Mel Lopez Boulevard, Dapitan Street, Vicente Cruz Street, Dela Fuente Street, Radial 10, and Moriones Street, all in Manila, and Circumferential Road 3 (C-3 Road) in Navotas City resulted in the apprehension of 58 vehicles and the issuance of citation tickets to their owners.

Twenty-one unattended and illegally parked vehicles were also towed and impounded.

The clearing operation is being carried out by the agency’s Special Operations Group – Strike Force headed by its chief, Gabriel Go, in close coordination with local government units, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, and the Philippine National Police.

Go said road obstructions slow traffic flow and force pedestrians to walk on the road if sidewalks are blocked.

“We appeal to the public to obey regulations, even the simplest ones, to ensure unimpeded vehicular movement along major thoroughfares and improve traffic conditions,” he said.

The MMDA is also conducting road clearing operations along Mabuhay Lanes to provide alternate routes for private vehicles avoiding the congested Epifanio de los Santos Avenue.
