Carmona—Super Sonic ruled the 47th edition of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) Presidential Gold Cup at the world-class racing grounds of the San Lazaro Leisure Park (SLLP) in Carmona, Cavite recently.
Owned by Mayor Leonardo “Sandy” Javier Jr., Super Sonic claimed the coveted Gold Cup championship title and the P3M purse awarded by the PCSO. Eight of the industry’s fastest horses participated in the grueling 2,000-meter race.
The champion colt was skillfully ridden by Jockey JB Guce and trained by Ruben Tupas. Javier also received a special custom-made Gold Cup trophy and an additional P200,000 breeder incentive.
Other winners included Pangalusian Island in second place (P1,000,000); Sepfourteen in third place (P500,000); and Princess Eowyn in fourth place (P300,000). The Philippine Racing Commission (Philracom) pledged an additional P1M to the winner.
Leading the awarding ceremonies were PCSO General Manager, Colonel Royina Marzan Garma; Philracom Chairman, Hon. Andrew A. Sanchez; MJC Racing Manager, Jose Ramon Magboo; and other officials of the organization.
Manila Jockey Club, Inc. (MJC), the premier horse racing club in the country and one of Asia’s oldest, successfully, hosted the championship.
