Lovely pieces made by local weavers using natural fibers and upcycled scraps are available at Bayo.
The proudly Pinoy releases are made possible through the collaboration of HABI: The Philippine Textile Council and the local clothing brand as part of the former’s HABI Connects campaign.
The campaign aims to encourage more entrepreneurs, MSMEs, and big businesses, both local and foreign, to support the Philippine weaving industry and the many skilled weavers from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
While the organization’s annual Likhang HABI Market Fair connects makers directly with consumers, this new campaign links weavers with brands and businesses.
The HABI and Bayo collaboration consists of apparel and accessories made of natural fiber textiles in cotton, abaca, and piña by weavers of La Herminia in Aklan, Ambension in Bulacan, and Argao in Cebu. It also features weaves of polyester worked with cotton threads to upcycle industry scraps or production offcuts. The collection is now available at www.bayo.com.ph and www.shophabifair.com.
“We’re grateful that more brands are using sustainable and local materials in their products,” says HABI president Laida Lim.
“Our collaboration with Bayo is just the beginning. With the HABI Connects campaign, we hope that more entrepreneurs and businesses, not just in fashion and lifestyle but also in other industries, will follow suit and support our local weaving communities.”
