BPI celebrates 173 years of banking excellence, customer obsession

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) continues to uphold banking excellence as it celebrates its 173rd anniversary in August. With its focus on digitalization, cybersecurity, sustainability, and financial inclusion, the Bank remains committed to transforming experiences, as it puts its customers at the center of all that they do.

“As the first bank in the Philippines and Southeast Asia, BPI aims to continue meeting the evolving needs of our customers amid fast-changing times. We are committed to delivering banking excellence anchored on trust and the best digital offers,” said BPI president and chief executive officer TG Limcaoco.

BPI has shown continuous growth, posting impressive financial results in the first half of 2024. The Bank recorded a 21.5 percent increase year-on-year in net income to P30.6 billion, driven by robust revenues and sustained positive operating leverage. Meanwhile, total revenues accelerated 23.8 percent year-on-year to P81.2 billion amid growth in net interest income.

Transforming customer experiences

BPI continues to strengthen its digitalization efforts to provide clients with streamlined banking experiences. Through digital advancements, improved customer engagement platforms, and innovative financial products, the Bank furthers its commitment to financial inclusion, serving the banking needs of various client segments and helping Filipinos achieve financial well-being.

In terms of sustainability, the Bank continues to offer green financing for small and big projects related to energy efficiency, renewable energy, and climate resilience. It also hosted the Sustainability Awareness Month (SAM) for the third year. With the theme, “Beyond Green,” this year’s SAM highlighted BPI’s support to sustainable programs beyond traditional green initiatives.

This 2024, BPI also aims to reinforce its cybersecurity campaign by promoting cyber hygiene practices, which help ensure online security among users of digital devices and financial services. The Bank has also upgraded its mobile banking app by integrating new security features designed to further shield clients from cyber fraud and scams.

BPI’s strategic initiatives on digitalization, cybersecurity, sustainability, and financial inclusion are essential in fulfilling its vision of building a better Philippines―one family, one community at a time.
