Glass makers agree to run generators

Power retailer Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) said Tuesday it secured commitments from Pioneer Float Glass Manufacturing Inc. and Anglo Watsons Glass, Inc. for additional capacity under the government’s Interruptible Load Program (ILP).

Pioneer Float Glass is set to sign an agreement for a 2-megawatt (MW) de-loading capacity that will come from its manufacturing plant in Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City following Meralco’s proactive calls for more ILP participants to help manage demand in the Luzon Grid.

ILP is an energy demand-side management program through which large-load customers are asked to use their generator sets or reduce their operations, instead of drawing power from the grid, to spare households from power interruptions during instances of red alert.

Pioneer Float Glass also voluntarily participated in the ILP without compensation, de-loading 1.5 MW that helped avert rotational power interruptions in April when red alerts were imposed in the Luzon grid.
