General Trias City provides medical, dental services to PDLs

General Trias City, Cavite – The local government unit (LGU) of General Trias City through its health office conducted a medical and dental mission for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) and employees of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Brgy. Navarro last Friday, July 5.

At least 90 PDLs and staff availed of free consultation and medicines, 17 received dental services and 17 PDLs who were also classified as persons with disabilities (PWDs) were provided healthcare assistance.  

Mayor Luis Ferrer IV thanked everyone who participated in the mission, including the BJMP management and City Health Office (CHO) workers. He also acknowledged Cavite 6th District Rep. Antonio Ferrer and Vice Mayor Jonas Port Labuguen for supporting the program.

“I am grateful to the BJMP management of GenTri under Jail Superintendent Ronald Badio and to Dr. Jonathan Luseco of CHO for this program of our city for the PDLs,” Ferrer said. The initiative aims to uphold the PDLs’ constitutional right to healthcare.

Apart from the abovementioned services, the participating individuals also received HIV screening, counseling and testing of various illnesses, as part of the LGU’s efforts to prevent and manage the spread of infectious diseases inside the facility.

The staff and PDL of the said city jail center provided free consultation, laboratory, dental check up and tooth extraction and free medicine.

There was also Free HIV screening, counseling and testing for three hundred eighty four (284) male PDLs and five (5) male dorm personnel to maintain good health and detect, prevent and manage the spread of infectious diseases inside the facility.
