President Marcos reaffirmed his commitment to protect press freedom, highlighting the media’s essential role in democracy and in fighting disinformation.

Speaking at the oathtaking of the Association of Philippine Journalists–Samahang Plaridel Foundation Inc. in Malacañang, Mr. Marcos praised journalists for keeping the public informed and fostering meaningful discourse.

“You help keep our people informed of important news and current events, ensuring that there is a healthy, and enlightened, and meaningful discourse on matters of public importance,” President Marcos said.

“You likewise help in holding public officers, including myself, accountable for our actions—recognizing our work when we do well, and pointing out our shortcomings whenever our work does not measure up to our sworn duties,” he added.

The chief executive assured the media of his administration’s support, emphasizing safety measures through the Presidential Task Force on Media Security.

This includes the creation of Media Safety Vanguards, a 24/7 hotline, and legal support.

“We will also foster an environment where members of the media can continue to freely practice their profession in a manner that is fruitful, rewarding, and meaningful,” Marcos said.
