The Armed Forces of the Philippines on Tuesday alerted the public of a misleading post circulating online featuring the Philippine Navy’s Naval Helicopter’s photo which was originally taken 3 years ago.

According to AFP Public Affairs Chief Colonel Xerxes Trinidad, the said post from an account in Meta is not related to any of the Armed Forces’ current activities.

Trinidad explained that the photo of the Navy’s airdropped supply mission in Kalayaan Group of Islands was captured by Western Command back in Christmas of 2021.

“Please take note that this social media post circulating online features a photo from December 26, 2021 during a Christmas mission in the West Philippine Sea is not related to any current events.” Trinidad said.

The said post started circulating this week claiming that the same photo is dropping packages at BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal.

“We’re taking this opportunity to remind everyone about the importance of verifying information and providing proper context before sharing it,” he said, adding that misleading posts can create confusion and contribute to misinformation.

Trinidad also encourages the public to be responsible digital citizens. “It’s crucial for all of us to be responsible digital citizens, ensuring that we only spread accurate and timely information.”
