LAS PIÑAS CITY—The Perpetual Altas, led by coach Olsen Racela, aim for another upset victory as they face the Arellano University Chiefs in the NCAA Season 100 men’s basketball tournament on Friday, September 13, at the FilOil EcoOil Center.

Meanwhile, both the Jose Rizal U Heavy Bombers and Letran Knights look to secure their first wins of the season.

Following their impressive 82-66 win over the Heavy Bombers on Tuesday, the Altas are brimming with confidence. Their game against the Chiefs is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., while the Bombers and Knights will clash at 12 noon.

Despite being considered underdogs this season, the Altas have shown promising signs.

Team captain Christian Pagaran and Bicolano native JP Boral were instrumental in their recent victory. Pagaran contributed 11 points and two three-pointers, while Boral recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Rookie Mark Gojo Cruz, who was named Player of the Game, made a strong debut with 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. He had previously led the Junior Altas to the Finals and was recognized as Rookie of the Year and a Mythical 5 member.

Racela emphasized the importance of this win for the team’s development, stating, “We’re happy with the first win of the season, but it’s part of our growth as a team. We still have a lot of things to do.”

Letran and Jose Rizal U will also be aiming to bounce back from their opening-round losses. Letran fell to San Sebastian College (84-91), while Jose Rizal U was defeated by the Altas (66-82).
