Fashion designer Rajo Laurel’s brand, House of Laurel, has recently been recognized as the Best Fashion House at the Mega Fashion Awards 2024. With this accolade marking a significant achievement in his career, Laurel looked back on his decades-long journey within the fashion industry.
In a post on his Instagram account, Laurel shared how his career in fashion began more than three decades ago when he was hired as an illustrator by Mega Magazine.
“To see my drawings printed in one of the most important Philippine fashion publications was a very big deal!” said Laurel.
He expressed that he shared the award with his sister Venisse Laurel-Hermano, whom he considered the “true visionary” of the House of Laurel, and their mother, Verginia Teves Laurel. He also dedicated the win to his team, the employees of his boutique, and those who have left the brand for their own pursuits.
“I am so thankful to be part of such a magnificent creative community that continues to move forward and thrive despite all the hardships and challenges,” said Laurel.
“To the young Filipino designers, aim high and believe in your dreams. If you truly have the proper discipline and continue to do the work, these dreams do come true!” he concluded.
Laurel was among the many fashion designers, brands, celebrities, and social media personalities whose achievements in fashion were recognized at the Mega Fashion Awards 2024 on September 13.
