An Industry Trifecta

In a rare confluence of events, the local automotive industry has been witness to the launch of three distinct products that promise to reshape the landscape in their respective sectors.

First, we saw the official unveiling of CST Tires and the appointment of TV personality Kuya Kim Atienza as their brand ambassador. CST, the world’s largest tire manufacturer, is now making inroads into the Philippine market, offering high-quality products at over 20% lower prices compared to leading global brands. CST’s extensive product range caters to bicycles, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, automobiles, trucks, and even agricultural and lawn equipment. The company’s officials emphasized that CST Tires can compete with the best tire brands in the world, and are the choice of industry giants like Michelin, Maxxis, and Continental for their own two-wheel and four-wheel products.

Later that same day, the launch of Xpress by Cebuana Lhuillier ushered in a new era of ride-sharing in the metro. Xpress, which will operate under the Xpressmoto and Xpresscar brands, aims to redefine the ride-sharing experience through advanced technology and a deep understanding of the local market. One of the standout features is the revolutionary “7-day advance booking” option, allowing passengers to secure their transportation needs well in advance. Xpress chairman Jean Lhuillier expressed the company’s commitment to “making a positive impact on the lives of our driver partners and passengers,” even as they enter a crowded market dominated by players like Grab, Joyride, and Lalamove.

Rounding out this trifecta was the grand launch of the newest motorcycle brand in town – Hero, brought to us by Terrafirma, led by President Felix Mabilog and Chairman Emeritus Congressman Jose Chaves Alvarez. This Indian-made motorcycle is poised to make a significant impact in the rapidly growing two-wheeler market, which is still ripe for expansion. Cong. Alvarez, an automotive stalwart with a history of introducing brands like BMW and Kia to the local market, sees great potential in the two-wheeler segment, even as it is currently dominated by Japanese and Chinese manufacturers.

The ripple effects of these three events are expected to be felt not only within the automotive industry but across the entire economy. With the competition heating up in the ride-sharing, tire, and motorcycle sectors, consumers can look forward to greater choice, improved service, and more affordable options. It’s an exciting time for the local automotive landscape, and these launches are just the beginning.
